As a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC), Tom Boeman provides consulting services for projects pursuing Phius certification throughout the United States.

Passive House & Phius

Passive House is a high-performance building approach focused on reducing energy demand while improving comfort, durability, and indoor environmental quality. Core strategies include:

  • Continuous thermal insulation

  • Airtight construction

  • Energy recovery ventilation

  • Efficient heating and cooling systems

  • Reduction of thermal bridging

Passive House projects use detailed energy modeling and quality assurance processes to evaluate and verify building performance throughout design and construction.

Phius is a non-profit organization dedicated to making high-performance passive building the mainstream market standard in North America. Phius develops and maintains the Phius CORE and Phius ZERO standards and certifies both buildings and design professionals.

Our Role on Project Teams

As the Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC), we collaborate with project owners, architects, engineers, and development teams to support project certification and high-performance building goals.

Boeman Design typically serves as a consulting member of the project team providing:

  • Energy modeling

  • Performance analysis

  • Thermal bridge evaluation

  • Certification coordination

  • Design-phase performance guidance

  • Support through Phius review and certification processes

We generally work alongside the architect of record and project engineering consultants rather than serving as the primary architectural designer for certified projects.

Our consulting services include:

  • Phius project registration

  • Preparation of Phius criteria and performance target calculations

  • WUFI Passive energy modeling

  • Thermal bridge analysis using THERM

  • Evaluation of high-performance enclosure strategies

  • Design optimization and energy conservation analysis

  • Review and coordination of mechanical system performance

  • Support during design review and certification

We provide consulting services remotely and support projects nationwide.

As an Architect and CPHC Boeman Design qualifies as a Green Building Professional as defined in the the Cambridge, Massachusetts Zoning Ordinance.
